Join us on June 5th for an intimate gathering to connect with staff, colleagues, and experts and learn about the history and development of progressive drug policy in support of the Pivot Foundation. Dr. Perry Kendall and Sarah Blyth will speak about the ongoing overdose crisis affecting BC and how their respective experiences in government and grassroots activism are making ground-breaking differences in how we address health and harm reduction.
The Pivot Foundation is the charitable partner of Pivot Legal Society and gifts support the charitable projects and programs that Pivot undertakes to find solutions to marginalization, stigma, and poverty. We’d love for you to join us to learn more about an issue that is affecting us all and help us raise funds to continue our mission-driven work of empowering marginalized communities and fighting for justice.
Canapés and refreshments will be provided.
About our speakers
Dr. Perry Kendall was BC’s Provincial Health Officer for nearly 20 years who recently retired in January. During his tenure he declared the ongoing opioid overdose crisis a public health emergency, presided over the opening of Insite, and has been a vocal advocate for harm reduction. He was awarded the Order of British Columbia in 2005 for his work in public health.
Sarah Blyth is the co-founder of Vancouver’s Overdose Prevention Society, a long-time community activist, and former Vancouver Park Board commissioner. As a former Portland Hotel Society staff member who worked at a homeless shelter and then as a mental-health worker, Sarah has deep ties to the community and has been instrumental in advocating for and creating change in Vancouver’s response to the overdose crisis.
