Staff Lawyer – Homes for All Campaign

Laura Macintyre

Pronouns: she/her/hers

— Laura is a lawyer and an activist deeply committed to community-oriented justice. Constantly navigating the complexities of working as a lawyer within a deeply flawed, colonial, and racist legal system, she grounds her work in community, advocating for justice in the way that the clients and communities she partners with define it for themselves.

Laura has several years of experience providing legal assistance and representation to women-identifying individuals who experienced intimate partner violence. She supported her clients as they navigated complex histories of violence alongside precarious immigration status, systemic housing discrimination, anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism, and carceral state practices and policies. Through this work, Laura developed an approach to lawyering that centers her clients’ resilience, autonomy, and self-determination in the face of interlocking systems of oppression.

Laura is also deeply passionate about climate justice and holds a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School based on her work in this area. She currently sits on the Board of Directors for Canadian Lawyers for Climate Justice, and continues to research and publish on how climate change is creating new and novel forms of injustice. In her spare time, she tries to understand climate science, skis and does hot yoga, and reads pretty much anything.
