Letter to Lethbridge City Council Regarding Motion on Supervised Consumption Sites

In August 2019, a motion was brought forward by a Lethbridge City Councillor attempting to interfere with harm reduction efforts in the city. The motion instructed Council to call on the Provincial Government to limit the distribution of harm reduction supplies (i.e. sterile syringes) at ARCHES, North America’s busiest supervised consumption site (SCS), and to freeze funding to that site, potentially leading to its closure.

This is our letter against the motion and in support of local harm reduction advocates, such as ARCHES, in Lethbridge, Alberta.

On August 19, 2019, council voted 6-3 against this harmful proposed motion in an important win for access to SCSs and harm reduction supplies.
