Summer Legal Intern
— Vyas is a South Asian settler and an Indo-Fijian Girmit descendant who is committed to intersectional and decolonial justice. He is excited to join Pivot and learn how directly impacted communities can be supported to unleash their collective power and achieve systemic change. He owes his ongoing understanding of community and care to his time in Chinatown, working with Indigenous-led direct action movements, and to the groundwork laid by anti-racist, labour, and feminist activists. Vyas hopes to contribute to Pivot his background in activism, communications, policy research, and political strategy.
Vyas’ work primarily takes place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the three title holding nations: xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations. In the Fall, he will return to complete his final year of law school at the University of Victoria, located on Songhees, Esquimalt, and WSÁNEĆ lands. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia, and in his free time, he enjoys reading in the open back of his station wagon with a view.
