Pivot Legal Society is pleased to announce Drew Dennis as our next Executive Director! Drew comes to Pivot with more than 20 years’ experience as a strategic leader and consultant within the social change sector, and an extensive portfolio of human rights advocacy.

(Drew Dennis, Pivot Legal's incoming ED | April 2019)

Their advocacy work began amid the HIV/AIDS crisis of the 90s, as the Fundraiser Manager for the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre and Board member with Bridge Housing Society. A previous Board Governance Trainer with Vantage Point, Drew has facilitated strategic planning and fund development plans with a diversity of organizations including Tenants Rights Action Coalition, West Coast Domestic Workers Association and YouthCO HIV and HepC Society.

As Executive Director at Out On Screen for 15 years, they collaboratively led the transformation of a grassroots LGBTQ2+ film festival to a mature and established arts and culture organization, including the development of Out in Schools, a high-impact education program named by Tides Canada as one of the Top Ten organizations in Canada to build innovative solutions to complex social issues.

Drew has served alongside transgender, non-binary and Two Spirit communities and allies to achieve human rights change within federal and provincial legislation, and their strategic leadership has been instrumental in shaping the City of Vancouver’s trans inclusion policy. In 2016, Drew along with Kai Scott co-founded TransFocus Consulting, a firm that continues to employ systems-thinking to inform policy and innovative gender solutions across organizations in the public and private sectors.

Central to Drew’s professional and community service is their demonstrated ability to convene and inspire champions for social justice. Pivot welcomes Drew to our team, and to serve alongside our clients, allies and supporters, as we continue to shift policies, change attitudes and pave the way for a more just and inclusive Canada. Drew’s official start date will be May 13, 2019.

I’ve been a long-time admirer of Pivot and have deep respect for the legacy of legislative and social justice change that Pivot has facilitated alongside, and in partnership with, the communities most directly impacted by these changes. I am both honoured and humbled to join the Pivot team to continue this critical work, and to uphold the powerful vision that poverty and social exclusion need not be inevitable.
~ Drew Dennis

Pivot extends our deep appreciation to Catarina Moreno who has served as Interim Executive Director during this time of transition.
