Pivot Legal Society
Pivot Legal Society is a non-profit society, not a registered charity. Our work focuses on complex issues of homelessness, drug policy and harm reduction, the rights of sex workers, and police accountability. By giving to Pivot Legal Society, you’re helping to build systemic change that will empower and improve the lives of people across Canada, and strike down discriminatory laws and policies that effect us all.
Because Pivot Legal Society is not a registered charity, we are unable to issue charitable tax receipts for donations.
The Pivot Foundation is the charitable partner of Pivot Legal Society.

Interested in a more creative and fun way to support Pivot that you get to create yourself? A third-party event (TPE) is an event of any kind that is conceived, planned, and hosted by an individual in which full or partial proceeds are donated to Pivot Legal Society. These events are highly beneficial in engaging donors and volunteers, allowing hosts to create an event that’s meaningful to them and their peers, while increasing exposure and philanthropic support to Pivot. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and to discuss your ideas.
How your legacy can uphold human rights
Have you ever wished you knew what the future held? At Pivot, we worry daily about the future—the future of our clients, about the criminal justice system, the political climate, and about those who have experienced human rights abuses already, and those who haven’t yet… but might.
Making a legacy gift, or a gift in will, is about taking action today to ensure that the future is better. It’s one thing you can be certain about for the future: that you will make a significant difference. Your gift might be the turning point to change a law that saves someone’s life.
Legacy gifts can take many different forms: a bequest, a gift of real estate, appreciated securities, life insurance, and more. These options can also have significant benefits to your estate. For important information about legacy gifts, to get in touch with us, and for sample wording, click here.
Do you want your gift to go further, but you’re at your maximum capacity? Your employer may match your gift! Companies like Telus, BMO Financial Group, RBC, H&R Block, Sun Life Financial, and so many others will match employee donations to non-profits and charities.
If you’re not sure if your company matches gift, you can contact your HR department and ask, or check your company website. If you know that your company does match gifts, the process is simple. After making your gift, you can request a matching gift form from your HR department, fill it out, and submit it back to your company. Then, your employer will send Pivot an additional donation, matching yours according to the company’s matching ratio. It’s that simple, and your gift can make double, or sometimes triple the impact!
