Policing Policy Consultant
Camia's journey into law arose from a strong sense of social justice. After 18 years as a lawyer, practicing mainly in the areas of criminal and aboriginal law in the Downtown Eastside and the Tsilquotin, Camia left the practice to work in the non-profit sector, focusing on justice for persons with mental illness, restorative justice, and social program development.
A primary area of interest for the past 15 years has been on improving police interactions with persons living with mental illness, leading her to a Master of Arts in criminal justice which she will complete in the spring of 2018. When not working or studying, she dances, kayaks, rides motorcycles, and travels.
