Big news from Pivot

Big and exciting changes are afoot at Pivot. Last week, we said farewell to Peter Wrinch, our incredible, now former, executive director.

As sad as we are to see him go (Good luck, Peter!), we’re equally excited about our new leadership. Katrina Pacey, our longtime litigation director and sex work campaigner, is taking over as executive director. Here’s her note to our amazing community of Pivot supporters explaining her decision to take on this new role:

Using the law as a catalyst for positive social change, Pivot Legal Society works to improve the lives of marginalized communities.

It was a beautiful summer evening when I received a text from Peter asking me to call. This was not unusual, given that Peter and I are incredibly close and we chat all the time, day and night. “I am sure it’s no big deal,” I thought. “He is probably looking for an update on the surf conditions in Tofino. Yes, I am sure that’s it.”

But deep down I knew it was something big, and my intuition was right. Peter broke the news that an amazing career opportunity had emerged. Amazing enough to draw him away from the organization that he loves so dearly.

I went through every possible emotion in that moment, and choked back my tears when I imagined a Pivot without Peter. As that initial torrent of feelings began to settle, however, I came to realize that there was so much potential in this moment. My optimism was surely driven by his words: “Katrina, this is your time.”

It took just a few days to realize that Peter was right; it was time for me to move into this position of leadership within our organization. I realized he was giving me the ultimate gift: an organization that has never been stronger in terms of its clarity of vision, stable and sustainable structure, and incredible talent. An organization with ambitious goals for campaign success and a clear plan on how to make it happen.

This legacy speaks to Peter’s incredible contributions to Pivot. I couldn’t be more grateful for the leadership he has provided and inspired. I'm also incredibly grateful for our board, which approved Peter's thoughtful succession plan.

So, despite the fact that I have been part of the Pivot family for more than 12 years, I write to you on what feels like my first day at work!

I feel so honoured to take on the role of executive director and to have an instrumental role leading this organization into its next era of greatness.

I love Pivot and everything it stands for, and I look forward to staying connected with you and our entire community of wonderful supporters.

Warmly,
Katrina Pacey
