Pivot's annual fundraiser is Thursday November 8, 6-9 p.m. so BOOK NOW - tickets are limited!

Dear Pivot supporter ,

I hope you had a great Halloween weekend!  I’m writing to invite you to another party; A Passion for Justice, Pivot’s fifth annual fall fundraiser.  Come and join us next Thursday (Nov 8) for a great evening of comedy song and dance, fantastic illusions, and thousands of dollars worth of fun Christmas gifts going to the sharpest bidders (see below).  We’ll also have great food and a subsidized cash bar, so you can come straight after work to tuck in, loosen up and get a good seat.

Our headline act this year is the Screaming Chickens, one of Vancouver’s best loved comedy burlesque troops.  As far as we know, this is the first time that the BC Supreme Courthouse has ever hosted a burlesque performance, and we think it’s about time!  It wasn’t long ago that burlesque was illegal - not unlike sex work is today.  Katrina Pacey, who is heading Pivot's Charter Challenge, together with Joanie Gyoza of the Screaming Chickens did a great interview on Juicebox Radio last week, talking about the upcoming event, and the complicated relationship between law and female sexuality.  Click here to listen to an MP3 of that show.

Daytime lawyer-nighttime crooner David Eby will be opening the Screaming Chickens with one of his hilarious musical compositions – if you never seen Dave with his guitar, this is the show to catch!  And adding mystery to the evening will be Rick Mearns, one of Vancouver’s best magicians who will dazzle the crowd with sleight of hand and amazing illusions.  Throughout, Screaming Chickens Hosts Melody Mangler and Evil Bastard will auction off some amazing gifts in the cheekiest fashion possible.

It's going to be legendary, so don't miss it!  Tickets are only $20, and all funds raised go towards Pivot’s legal campaigns for residents of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.  You can buy tickets online, drop by our office at 678 E. Hastings, or just call Tina at (604) 255-9700 to reserve a pay-at-the-door ticket.

If you’d like to help to make the event a success (besides your wonderful presence!) we are still happily accepting donations for the auction - Canuck's tickets, portable electronics, getaway packages are some of the items we're looking for.  Or you can help sell tickets by bringing some friends with you - the Law Courts Inn holds 350 people, and we want to raise the roof!

Have a great week, and we hope to see you there,

Regards,

John Richardson
Executive Director, Pivot Legal Society
