Camera handout 2006

A photo essay by Ingrid Lass, Roanna and Rebecca Tay.

Hendrik Beune, Pivot volunteer and past contest winner, helped sign people up before the gallery opened to hand out the cameras. Many past contestants are now volunteers on the community project.

The contest involved handing out 200 cameras to local residents of the Downtown Eastside. The contestants return the cameras three days later.

Several TV stations covered the annaul event, which has now occured four times. This crew came from Fairchild Television, with the event also being shown on CTV and CBC Radio One among others.

A contestant signs for a camera. Every camera comes in a plastic bag which holds the single-use camera, a pen and a consent form to get permission from the people being photographed.
