Sex work achievements:
Sex work reports
In an effort to develop a constitutional argument
challenging the current laws criminalizing sex-work, Pivot
has published two in-depth sex-work reports: Voices for
Dignity and the recently published follow-up Beyond
Decriminalization.
The reports recommend a range of social and
legal reforms aimed at improving the working conditions of
sex workers, including the decriminalization of prostitution.
Voices
for Dignity (March 2004) received praise from both
government and the community, and triggered the establishment
of a parliamentary committee to evaluate the criminal code
prohibitions against prostitution.
Beyond
Decriminalization (June 2006) analyzes the range
of regulatory frameworks that could be implemented if sex-work
were to be decriminalized.

Parliamentary
review
Pivot helped in the coordination of direct participation
of sex workers in the parliamentary review of the prostitution
laws in 2005.
The review involved meeting with representatives
from all levels of government to advocate the decriminalization
of the sex trade.
Activist group
Pivot helped with the establishment of a peer-driven
Sex Workers' Activist Group in the Downtown Eastside in 2005.

Other achievements:
Pivot Legal Society's involvement with the local
community in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside has been complemented
by the annual Hope
in Shadows photography contest, calendar and exhibitions.
An innovative approach to empowerment through
art, the calendar was designed to give marginalized people
the power to define their own identity, and to offer them
an opportunity to showcase their talent and potential.
